Herds and Actions
Have you ever
tried to act like an ostrich and live in a herd? In this paragraph, I will be
talking about where ostriches live, them living in herds, and what they do in these
herds. First, ostriches live in African deserts and savannas. These places are extremely hot and dry. During the day these places are hot during
the day and has freezing temperatures at night. This animal lives in herds.
These herds have usually more than 12 birds in them. On the other hand, when
these birds go around a watering hole it has 100 or more birds in it. You might
not know this but ostriches use team work to stay safe. They have long necks
and good vision to help spot danger from far away. Can you guess who’s in
charge of these herds that they stay in? If you guessed the dominant male/rooster than
you were correct. The rooster makes a “BOO hoo” sound to warn the other members
from nearby danger. Also, the dominant male/ rooster goes through an
elaborative courtship dance to attract the females. The steps to the dance is
you first bow, then shakes one at a time and moves his tail up and down. Next,
holds out his wings and approaches the females while stomping his feet.
Overall, ostriches have a pretty cool life and sure has a unique way of living.
